Whether you're clipping in for the first time or you're a seasoned saddle veteran, guided cycling rides offer something truly special: the chance to explore stunning routes with expert support, great company, and zero navigation stress. Here's everything you need to know about this week's guided ride — and how to make the most of it. 🚴‍♂️

🗺️ This Week's Featured Route

This week we're riding the Wiltshire Countryside Loop — a gorgeous 25-mile route through rolling countryside, quiet country lanes, and picturesque villages around the Salisbury Plain. The route is suitable for beginner and intermediate cyclists, with total elevation gain of around 300 metres spread comfortably across the ride.

📍 Route Highlights

  • Start point: Winterslow Village Green — easy parking, flat warm-up stretch

  • Mile 8: Scenic descent into the Bourne Valley — enjoy the views!

  • Mile 15: Refreshment stop at a local village cafĂ© — cake is highly recommended 🍰

  • Final stretch: Gentle climb back through Winterslow — a satisfying finish!

🚦 What to Expect on the Ride

Guided rides with DK Personal Trainer are relaxed, supportive, and designed around YOU. There's no pressure to keep up — we ride at a conversational pace, meaning you should be able to chat without losing your breath. Your guide will handle all navigation, call out road hazards, and keep the group together throughout.

The Pace

We aim for a comfortable average of 10–13 mph. No one gets left behind — if you need to slow down, just give a signal. The group regroups at key waypoints so everyone stays together and enjoys the experience.

Safety Signals to Know

  • Point down + call 'HOLE' — pothole ahead

  • Wave arm behind back — slowing/stopping

  • Point left/right — turning direction

  • Shout 'CAR BACK' — vehicle approaching from behind

🎒 What to Bring

  • âś… Properly fitted helmet (non-negotiable!)

  • âś… Water bottle (at least 750ml) — hydration is key

  • âś… Energy snack — banana, energy bar, or flapjack works great

  • âś… Lightweight jacket or gilet — autumn mornings can be chilly!

  • âś… Basic puncture repair kit or mini pump

  • âś… Charged mobile phone

🍌 Fuelling for the Ride

Nutrition before and during your ride makes a huge difference to how you feel. For a 25-mile ride, here's a simple guide:

  • 2 hours before: A balanced meal with carbohydrates and protein (porridge with banana, or eggs on toast)

  • 30 mins before: A light snack if needed (banana, small energy bar)

  • During: Sip water every 10–15 minutes; eat something small around the halfway point

  • After: Protein-rich recovery snack within 30 minutes (chocolate milk, protein shake, or Greek yoghurt)
