Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, guided rides are one of the best ways to explore stunning UK landscapes, build confidence on the bike, and connect with fellow cycling enthusiasts. This week, we're shining a spotlight on three incredible routes.
Route 1: South Downs Way — Winchester to Eastbourne (100 miles)
The South Downs Way is a classic UK cycling route stretching 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. This bridleway trail winds through rolling chalk hills, ancient woodlands, and picturesque villages before finishing with a dramatic coastal finale.
What to Expect: Chalky bridleways and grassy paths — a mountain bike or gravel bike is recommended. Duration: 2-4 days. Difficulty: Moderate. Highlights include Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, Ditchling Beacon, and the historic city of Winchester.
Top Tips: Start early to avoid trail traffic. Carry at least 2 litres of water. Pack a puncture repair kit — chalky flint is notorious for flats! Book accommodation in advance, especially in summer.
Route 2: Traws Eryri — Trans-Snowdonia, Wales (112 miles)
For those craving a serious off-road challenge, Traws Eryri (Trans-Snowdonia) is a bucket-list route through the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Running from Machynlleth to Conwy, this epic 112-mile trail crosses forest tracks, open moorland, and mountain passes with over 4,000 metres of climbing.
What to Expect: Technical mountain bike trails, forest tracks, and exposed moorland. Duration: 2-3 days for experienced riders. Difficulty: Challenging — not recommended for beginners. Highlights: Snowdonia summits, ancient drovers roads, and stunning Welsh valleys.
Route 3: Chilterns Off-Road Adventure (280km)
Closer to home for many UK cyclists, the Chilterns offer a fantastic multi-day bikepacking adventure through rolling hills, ancient beech woodlands, and charming market towns. This 280km route blends scenic trails with historic landmarks, making it perfect for a long weekend escape.
